| Hair Damage | There are five main classifications of hair damage such as mechanical, photochemical, chemical, thermal and systemic damage. We pay attention to each kind of damage.
Mechanical Damage: The causes of mechanical damage are vigorous combing or brushing of the hair especially when they are wet. The stretching of wet hair is more obvious, that is why gentle treating is recommended. Hair can be damaged with metal combs. There are more possibilities for the hair being damaged when it is wet. The cuticle breaks off and the cortex damages further. If one uses round brushes improperly, hair can be damaged.
Photochemical Damage: The ultraviolet light in direct sunlight influences the cuticle such as bleaching and as the result of it the keratin protein of the hair breaks down.
Chemical Damage: If you prefer to have waves constantly, it leads to the ruining of the structure of the hair, although the shape of the hair from straight to curly is successfully altered. Wave solutions breakdown the bonds leading to the temporary fixation of the hair in its new shape. As the result of these bonds being weaken moisture loss and breakage can occur. Bleaching and dyeing can alter hair structure as the result of penetration of the cuticle with the dyes and bleaches and getting them into the cortex. Chemical damage cannot be avoided, although extreme bleaching can completely break the hair structure down and hair can stretch to the moment it is ready to break down.
Thermal Damage: Such thermal procedures as blow drying and the use of thermal appliances lessen the moisture content and it will be less than it should be, besides it is very harmful for hair. Hair dryers and other heated appliances make the keratin of the hair softer; their high temperature can make the water in the hair to boil, and tiny bubbles of steam can lead to the softened hair shaft. Thus the hair weakens and breaks greatly.
Systemic Damage: The possible causes of systemic damage of the hair are a genetic predisposition or a medical condition. Poor nutrition or anemia caused by a lack of protein in the diet can also damage hair. Damaged hair is dull and thin. The state of hair may vary during life and it is influenced with hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy or natural maturing. If you keep to a healthy way of life, many systemic hair problems can be avoided. Modern hair care products can lessen the negative influence too.
It is better to avoid hair damage that to treat it. It is recommended to apply regularly such protective products on chemically treated and damaged hair as conditioners. If you have healthy hair, you should take care of it too to maintain it in a good form.
