Hair Loss and its Causes

The process of hair loss and hair growth is constant and quite normal. As you know 10 percent of the hair on the head is in a resting phase that lasts two to three months. At the end of its resting stage some hair falls out.  Every day about 50 to 100 head hair falls out and new hair appears in its place. One should not worry if such quantity of hair falls out. If the amount of hair lost is more than 100, one should apply to the physician who can find out the cause of hair loss and prescribe you a necessary treatment. The term for excessive hair loss, when balding areas are visible is alopecia (pronounced: ah-luh-pee-shuh).

hair_lossAs it was mentioned the process of growing is constant and lasts for 2 to 6 years, during which each hair may become 1sm longer. About 90 percent of the hair on the head is always growing. There are things which fasten hair growth. They are proper nutrition, little stress, the health of the scalp and proper and careful hair care. Hair growth is not the same as hair length. When you have proper rest, drink enough water, take care of your scalp well and eat properly, take hair vitamins your hair can reach grow to maximum. With the age the speed of hair growth slows. Hair loss is normal, but excessive (more than normal) hair loss is abnormal and can be the problem of men, women and children.

There are three kinds of baldness:
1) only some hair falls out on the head,
2) all the hair falls out from the head,
3) all the hair from the head and the body.

There is a constant and temporary hair loss. Not always the hair loss may be treated.  The more progressive hair loss is, the less effective the treatment is.

The problem of hair loss can occur among teenagers. While suffering from it they should apply to the doctor, because it is a symptom of problems, connected with health, which are caused by an illness or bad nutrition.
Nowadays there are many myths about the possible causes of baldness. Read them carefully:
1) Baldness can not be inherited. Men whose fathers are bald do not always suffer from baldness, but they can have more chances.
2) Baldness can not be caused by intellectual activity or psychological problems.
3) Baldness can not be caused by emotional stress, sexual frustration.
4) The statement that bald men are more sexually active than men who are not bald is disputable.
5) Some people think that shaving hair is good for hair grows. Don’t believe them.
6) There is also a false though, that constant ejaculation can cause baldness.
7) Men should not be afraid of wearing tight hats. It does not cause baldness. The matter is that earlier the military man wearing hats became bald. They became bald not because of hats, the cause was the age of entering the military service which coincided with the age when men begin to lose their hair. When people do not wash hats often, the hair under it gets oily.
8) Remember that hair grows better on a clean scalp which has no extra sebum.

When do people usually have excessive hair loss? It usually occurs after a surgery, getting anesthesia and a long illness, about a period of 3 or 4 months and the stress related with it. This process is temporary. The overactive or inactive thyroid gland may be also the cause of hair loss. But the treatment can stop hair loss.
Hair loss is possible during and after the pregnancy. Pregnant women have high levels of certain hormones, after the birth of the child 3 months after the amount of hormones is normal again and the sudden change of hormones causes hair loss and the process of hair growth continues. Hair loss can last one to six months.
Birth Control Pills can cause hair loss too. It happens when women inherited hair thinning from their parents.  In this case a woman should apply to her gynecologist who prescribes her another birth control pill. A woman, who does not use oral contraceptives any more, may suffer from hair loss two or three months later. It may last to six months.  It is like hair loss after the birth of a child.
