Hair Restoration
Most people suffering from baldness and hair loss do all the possible to solve this problem. Egyptians began to search for the treatment since 1150 B.C., using mixed fats from lion, serpent, goose, crocodile, ibex (a mountain goat) and hippopotamus on the bald areas of the head.

There are three different approaches concerning the restoration of hair. The first approach is a 2 percent solution of minoxidil or Rogaine which has an approval by the Food and Drug Administration for regrowing hair. It should be used twice a day by men and women. Minoxidil is placed on the scalp. The treatment is more effective for younger people and those who suffer from hair loss recently. It was proved that 26 percent of men between 18 and 49 observed moderate hair regrowth after taking the medicine. 33 percent of bald people noticed slight hair regrowth. 20 percent of women between 18 and 45 found out moderate regrowth, 40 percent noticed slight regrowth. It was noticed a lesser amount of hair fell out. It is unknown if less hair falls out or more hair growths. To be effective minoxidil should be used all the life or the hair regrown will fall out again. The treatment is effective for people who lost hair on the crown, not in front. An itchy scalp may be a side effect.

Another remedy used for treatment is Finasteride (brand name: Propecia - a tablet taken once a day) which can be bought only with a prescription and is in the form of pills. This remedy is suitable only for men and should be taken for a long period to 6 months, because the results of the treatment appear later. However these remedies are ineffective for the treatment of excessive hair loss. But they are effective in stopping further hair loss. Nutritional supplements are more effective than these remedies. It is always easier to prevent baldness than to cure it.
The second approach is surgical procedures such as hair transplantation and scalp reduction. Nowadays surgeons can create hair line, which looks natural. For transplanted hair they cut small slits or holes in the scalp by scalpels.

There are two main types of surgery: transplantation and scalp reduction. Transplantation is the procedure of taking hair from densely covered sites on the back of the head or the sides and putting it to bald areas of the head. Women often have donors for this procedure. Surgeons also take pieces containing from seven to 10 hairs. Grafts of nine to 12 hairs are also used. The transplantation of hair fibers is not permitted because of possible infection. If there is a bid bald area on your scalp, scalp reduction is effective. It is the surgical removal of big areas of a bald head. Another surgical method is the flap technique, when the surgeon removes hair from the sides or the back forward to the bald areas of the scalp. The complications from the surgery are bleeding, infection and scarring.

hair_restorationThe third approach used by Julius Caesar is the covering of bald areas up. He wore a wreath of laurel leaves for the ceremonial to hide his bald head. Nowadays the hairpiece for the purpose is used. It is made from human or synthetic hair, each hair is implanted into a nylon netting. If the treatment can not help you may have artificial hair replacement or different hairstyles (wigs, hairpieces, hair weaves). Many companies earn a lot of money selling remedies against hair loss and for hair growth; selling hairpieces and transplanting hair. Toupees are also used. A hairpiece may not serve for a long period, it should be maintained clean every month hairpiece and must be replaced constantly.
