| Hair Transplantation | Nowadays laser hair transplantation is popular. Lasers play a great role in the treatment of hair loss. They were used in hair transplantation in 1992. There were different results. New technologies were applied: pulsating lasers, the pulsation of laser's light beam was to hundreds of times per second which prevented heat. The success of the operations depended on the skill of surgeon and the tools used by him. Nowadays a super pulsed laser is used. The laser recipient sites are from .3mm to .8mm. Small areas of bald tissue are removed with each pulse of the laser, it leads to the decrease of the total bald area on the scalp of patients. Then a surgeon uses a small probe to enter the vascular layer. It should be done very carefully and should not cause any damage to the underlying vascular components. Sutures are often removed in 10 days. Then the patients have to return to the office the next day to be rechecked and to listen to post-operative instructions. The patients should take care of the newly transplanted hair gently during the first week and apply to the doctor if any questions appear.
Sometimes such transplantation technique as Follicular Unit Extraction is used. It is the removal of a strip from the donor area. But it is more expensive, takes more time, avoids the appearance of scar in the donor area, but it may cause the injury of the follicular units. But the method is good for patients with a tendency to healing with bad scars or with very tight scalps. It is also good when taking hair from the body and transplanting it to the scalp. But such transplantation is not recommended to many patients because of the mentioned drawbacks. The advantage is in taking more than one follicular unit from one person and the achieving of greater hair density.
If you want to apply to a transplantation specialist you should take care of some measures. Ask the doctor how many years he works in the field and how many surgical treatments he has carried out. Find out about his or her medical training and what medical organizations he is a member of. The most serious medical organizations in the field are the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. Their members pass oral and written exams to ensure safety of their operations. Ask the surgeon about all the points and the whole procedure of transplantation. Look at the photos of the patient’s head before and after the operation. The photos of the head should be made in the same position, at the same distance and with the same lighting. One should see also close-up photographs of the hairline after the transplantation.
