Chemicals in Hair Care Products

Many products are designed for the treatment of dry, damaged, chemically treated African American hair. One should be careful while choosing a hair product, because the difference between your expectation and the result can be tremendous. Hair needs to have a rest after chemicals. Traditional shampoos, conditioners and haircare products have in their contents many chemicals.

Among them are:
1. Isopropyl alcohol: Being a solvent and denaturant, it can alter the natural qualities of substances. Such chemical is available in many hair and skin care products (especially hair rinses and finishing sprays), besides it is applied in wood lacquer and antifreeze. Its negative influence on the body can be found in the form of headaches, dizziness, nausea and comas.

Its negative influence on the hair and skin can be found in the form of breaking down protein and the cellular wall or the skin. Being a synthetic petrochemical, it provides hair and skin with a smooth look, but it damages the strands greatly and provides quicker aging. Other negative effects are the denatured and lifeless skin. While working with propylene glycol, one must wear gloves, protective goggles and clothing, because skin contact can lead to liver, brain and kidney damage.
3. Polyethylene glycol: Being a petroleum based product, it is designed for oven cleaning.
4. Sodium Laurel Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Suplhate: Being extremely dangerous ingredients available in all personal care products, it is used in about 90% of all shampoos/conditioners producing foam.
5. DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (momoethanolamine): Being known also as Cocamide and Lauramide, these chemicals can form cancer causing nitrates. Being frequently used, they lead to the increase in liver and kidney cancers.
6. Parabens: Being preservatives, they prevent microbial growth in hair care products. Unfortunately, they are dangerous, because they are very toxic.
7. Buy hair care products including hair healthy ingredients such as aloe vera, jojoba, olive and rosemary.
8. It is recommended to buy all natural, high quality hair care product created specifically for damaged, color and chemically treated hair.
